Barnyard Birthday Bash

So this is way late and I am sure most of you have seen the other photos out there but here are ours anyway.

There was face painting (which was such a hit that there was a long line waiting), horse riding, pin the tail on the donkey, and look for the animal in the haystack game.

Then everyone came in for pizza and cake. I make the cake myself however I cannot take full credit, I got the idea of the internet. But I think it turned out great!

Once everyone was full, we worked it off a little wacking a pinata.

Now time to open presents. What chaos! If Katlynn did not thank you personally - we are doing so now, Thank you! Then a little time to play with some of the toys before everyone goes home.

That's all folks! We thank you all for coming and making Katlynn's 3rd birthday one to remember. She had a blast and we hope you all did too.

OAMC

While at my Grannie's house I always learn tons of stuff from her. The first thing I am trying since being back is OAMC (once a month cooking) but the smaller version. I made two entrees that will be 5 dinners for us. I made Spaghetti Casserole and Mexican Stuffed Shells. I have two more recipes that I am going to make up tomorrow. I am also going to try out "dump chicken". This is where you put some sort of marinade in with the chicken in a freezer bag and freeze it. When you are ready, just dump in a baking dish and cook. Sounds easy to me. I will let you guys know if anything turns out great enough to post about.

Thank you Katlynn for your great pictures you took while at GG's. Mom finally got to participate in Two Things. ha.

Birthday FUN!

On Katlynn's actual birthday, we decided to let it be all about her.

First thing when she woke up we gave her special present, her very own desk. Now she can type dad's reports for him. ha. Then we went to Blue Bird Cafe for breakfast except they we no longer serving breakfast so we had to just do lunch instead. When we got home, she jumped on the trampoline for a very long time.

For dinner, we decided to go to IHOP and have those pancakes we were supposed to have for breakfast. Lastly a visit to Toys 'R' Us for more presents!

What a day, whew!

Early Birthday Present from GG!

Katlynn got her first birthday present in the mail on Saturday May 26. I let her open it not knowing it was not wrapped but she had a great time. She got two new books that she sat quietly and read and a new dress (that she immediately took off what she was wearing to put it on). Thank you GG!

School Days

Here's Katlynn's first school picture. It's from Mother's Day Out at Antioch Christian Church. She was in the 2 year olds class. She absolutely loved her teacher, Amber. On her last day of school, we gave the teacher and aide homemade children's aprons that I had made recently. They both have little girls themselves.
Katlynn will be going back for the Summer session at Antioch but will start St. John's School in the fall, a private school. They have 3 year olds up to 6th graders. She will go daily from 8:30 to 11:30. She is looking forward to it very much. She calls it her "dad's" school since it's named St. John's.

Home again, Home again, Jiggity Jig

Finally we are home! and back in our own bed, that's the best part. We are truly spoiled with our tempur-pedic memory foam mattress. Nothing else will do.

John took tons of pictures while in Paris but I will save you (and myself) the time and just post him and the Eiffel Tower. He said it reminded him of Mexico because of the crowding, dirtiness, and crazy driving. We are so glad he is back home. You all know the saying, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder", well it is so true.
Once he came back, we turned right around and went to the Bowling Nationals in Reno, NV and ventured out a day to Lake Tahoe. While we were there, we stayed at Circus Circus on our last day and Katlynn loved it. We almost had to buy an extra suit case for all her stuff that she won down in the midway.

Then we flew back into Lubbock that weekend for Regan's (John's sister) graduation from Texas Tech. She graduated with her bachelors in nursing. Plus she just moved into her first home and treated us all to a wonderful lunch. We had a blast staying there with them. Katlynn loved waking up every morning with her Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Regan and best of all cousin Brooklyn. She went non-stop.

Rain, Rain, Go Away Part II

Again with the rain today! And all day today. So more flooding. Roof leaking. Katlynn inside all day. Enough with the rain already.

The pit just as your getting into West Odessa was completely flooded and overflowing today. Here is a shot of it for you guys that are out of town and staying dry.

Sorry, Dad.

Dad, meet the new kitty.

Kitty, meet Dad.

We took John to the airport on Tuesday morning (he was headed to Paris, FRANCE) and on the way back home we stopped in at the Animal Shelter. I did not want a long hair cat or a boy. Guess what, the cat we came home with is both. Katlynn really took to him and even more important, he took to her.

The Good Earth

Last week sometime we planted seeds in our vegetable garden and flower garden. Yesterday I noticed the okra were coming out. Today I checked and they have sprouted big time. Katlynn was very happy to see something come from the work that she has been helping me with. I can't wait till we start being able to harvest from the garden, she is going to love that!

I did also notice the zinnias that Great Grandma Cates sent me are starting to come up too. Plus some other seeds that she gave me but didn't write what they were, I guess eventually I will find out. I had thought after big storm the seeds might have been washed away but they both are coming up right where I planted them. This pleases me.

Swimming Sunday

So since we went with George and Trish on Thursday, we switched Ronnie and France's night to Sunday and made plans to go swimming. Almost as soon as she got there this morning, her clothes were coming off and bathing suit on. As you can tell from the photos she had a very busy day. I picked her up at about 4 and while reading her naptime story, she fell asleep, which has never happened. And now at 6:45, she is still sleeping that being the reason there are blog posts today. Ye'ah for momma.

Your charge card has been denied

Katlynn's Papa and Grammie bought her this cash register Thursday night. While I was trying to finish up some work on Friday afternoon, I got it out for her to play with. She loved sitting next to me at the desk playing with it, scanning everything that she could. Once again, thank you from the both of us.

I'm 2 in shrimp years

We went to eat with George and Trish on Thursday instead of the usual Tuesday because Trish had to work late on Tuesday. We went to Jorge's Mexican restaurant and I had fish and shrimp soup. Papa helped Katlynn put her these shrimp tails on and she thought it was a hoot.

Rain Rain Go Away...

So as everyone knows, Tuesday we had a big storm that blew in and created flash floods. Living here without a TV makes knowing these things in advance a little harder. But we got all the dogs put in the well house, got dressed, put tennis shoes on, sat in the hall with a candle and radio. Once things calmed down, we were able to watch out our bedroom window.

The next day our pasture was still flooded, poor horse and donkeys.

Show and Tell

Yesterday at school was Show and Tell. For the 2 year old class, they were to bring their favorite stuffed animal. When I asked Katlynn that morning which animal she wanted to bring, there was no delay, "Kitty"! This kitty was recently picked up on the 4 generation Dallas trip at IKEA. It was one of those things that Katlynn sneaks into the basket and before I realize it, it has already been rang up at the checkout line.

She had a blast showing off her kitty and seeing the other animals that the kids brought. When I asked her after school what everyone else brought she told me, "a horsey". When I probed her a little more, that was it. No dogs, no teddy bears, nothing. Just kitty and horsey.

Later during the day, while getting ready to go to dinner and waiting on Dad to finish up in the shop, her and her dad had this conversation. I am sure you can all relate.

K: What is this? Is it broke?
Dad tells her.
K: huh? What is this? Is it broke?
D: huh?

We're Back....

After a long hiatus, I have promised myself (again!) to start sharing more pictures of Katlynn and what's been going on around here. To make it a little easier on me and my busy schedule, I have combined Katlynn's and my's blog. So be sure to change your save links as the title has changed. I hope everyone enjoys this new blog just as much as the old KPOD!

P.S. If you would like the large version of a picture, email me and I will send it to you.

Sandy had her pups! And 11 to be exact!

The day has finally arrived, Sandy had her pups! And 11 to be exact! I have my hand in this photo so you can see the size of litter. It's a sea of puppies.

Here's some close-ups of their cute little faces. All in all, we have 8 black (and some with just a little white, mostly white tipped tailed and white boots) and 3 brown. 8 are female and 3 male.
I'll be taking orders now if anyone wants one or some. Ha!
Now if I can just keep Katlynn out of them...

Our Little Baby Hummingbird

Back in May, Katlynn and I found a baby hummingbird hanging out in our flower bed. Katlynn and I both had a wonderful experience watching him, you can hear her cooing in the background. I has taken me forever to upload the video of it but here it is (google video). Enjoy!

Milk and Cereal

The ones who started it all. Well I don't know if they started it but they did it about 5 years ago. Go grab a bowl of milk and cereal and enjoy!
